What Fossils can you find at Weybourne?

(Searching in the Chalk on the foreshore) - 2006

Echinoids of Echinocorys Scutata can be found in the chalk, these are often poorly preserved and can be crushed or broken, occasionally nice complete and unbroken specimens can be found and they can get quite large. Bivalves (Ostrea vesicularis), Brachiopods (Cretirhynchia limbata), Sea Urchin Spines (Tylocidaris clavigera) and Belemnites (Belemnitella) can also be found.

The best fossils, Micrasters, Sponges and between Weybourne and Sheringham are found on the foreshore during scouring conditions.

Large Ammonite
(Searching in the Wroxham Crag) - 2002

Large mammal remains such as deer, whale, mammoth and horse remains can be found in the Wroxham Crag, these of course are rare and are quickly taken by collectors. Smaller mammals such as Voles and Screws can be collected from the Shell Beds which is best done by taking samples home for wet sieving with a 0.5mm aperture. Fish and Bird remains can also be collected from the Wroxham Crag.

A wide range of freshwater shells make up the dense shell beds and of course can also be collected.
